Blog Tour: Surrender of Trust by @mariel_grey #review and #giveaway

Historical Romance / Regency
Date Published: April 15, 2013

Lucy Goodwin knows more about horse breeding than a proper young lady should. Her brother’s thoroughbred business has given her purpose and independence, but when an accident leaves her solely in charge, despair and destruction threaten her every move. Trapped in an impossible position, Lucy must do the right thing and watch their dreams crumble, or save their livelihood at a cost too great to bear.

Lord Philip Lyton, Marquess of Chalifour is a member of the prestigious Jockey Club, dedicated to eliminating cheating in horse racing. Trouble raises its ugly head when his business partner falls foul of an accident and he’s suddenly forced to deal with the man’s sister, who seems alarmingly out of her depth.

Chalifour respects Lucy’s steely resolve, but knows that single-mindedness can be the most dangerous trait of all. She might be beautiful and beguiling, but Lucy Goodwin is keeping secrets and Chalifour is determined to find out what they are.

Review
Do you like to be swept off to a different time and place? If yes, this is definitely a great choice. I loved the way that Mariel Grey really sets the scene for novel. I was completely immersed in the year and it felt real to me. Kudos to her for doing her research.

The characters were probably my favorite part. I really enjoyed each of their stories. I didn't feel like anyone was out of place or didn't fit.

The plot was smooth and I liked the way it flowed from chapter to chapter. A quick and easy read and overall great Historical Novel.

And might I add a gorgeous cover?

From the moment she could put pen to paper, Mariel Grey knew she wanted to be a writer. Like all good adventures however, it didn’t happen overnight; it was after several decades of working in litigation that the desire to create dramatic worlds and characters became too great to ignore. Her first foray into historical romance, Surrender of Trust, explored the grime and glamour of regency horse racing, following the determined but impoverished Lucy Goodwin and upright Lord Chalifour. Her second novel, A Gentleman’s Surrender,  released in January 2016,  introduced the innocent Lady Monique and tortured Mr. Stanton, both struggling to find love in a world filled with deceit.

Though entirely at home in the ballrooms and street alleys of London past, Mariel Grey is currently working on a contemporary story set in Florida, a landscape dear to the author’s heart. When she isn’t conjuring words on her computer screen, Grey can be found on the water fishing, snorkeling, and enjoying the incredible natural beauty of her home.

Mariel has a wonderful husband (the hero of her own romantic story) as well as a mischievous cat (who seems happy to play the role of villain). In addition to being a dutiful wife and animal wrangler, Mariel is a member of the Romance Writers of America and the Ancient City Romance Authors chapter.

Review

This is a continuation in Karen Tjebben's YA Supernatural series and it is just a great as the first. Karen makes sure to catch readers up without making them feel bogged down with details from the first.

I felt like I got more of an understanding of the characters in this one. The first in the series was really an introduction and their characters really took off in this one.

Definitely a lot of action going on that will have readers flipping pages furiously.

 Review
The Sonar Saga has been a wild ride. I feel like we have really come to know these characters and we have seen them go through so much and prevail.

This novel really starts off with a bang and doesn't let up for most of the novel. There is a lot going on and plenty of action to keep you flipping pages furiously.

This novel was a bit darker and deeper in the emotions. It brought the characters through a lot and was a bit heartbreaking.

This was a fantasy novel that really made me think on a deeper level than most Sci-Fi/Fantasy novels.

I liked that this novel is written for Young Adult readers, but can be enjoyed by all fans of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

There is a lot going on and a lot to understand since you are diving into a new world. I think that Hargus Montgomery really managed to keep his readers up to speed by giving them just enough along the way without making them feel lost or bogged down with information.

REVIEW

Characterization in this novel was on point. I seriously loved everything about the main characters. I liked how this novel wasn't hot and steamy, but rather sweet and steady in the love. I thought that the secondary characters were also quite fun to read about. Maddie's friends were a hoot! I personally liked the balance and restraint the author showed in her writing. It was a smooth pace.

Review

I really enjoyed Ryan Jo Summers writing style in this novel.
There are plenty of twists along the way that will keep the reader on their toes. The suspense aspect was very well done.

The characters were multi-dimensional and believable, as was the romance. It didn't feel forced and there were plenty of surprises that helped the romance feel natural.
