Wrenched at the age of five from his Mexican family in Baja California, Robert lives with his unconventional birth mother who works as a traveling Tupperware salesman in 1950s Southern California. Their many adventures include living with a World War II veteran suffering from PTSD, reciting poetry to the rhythm of bongo drums in a Beatnik Commune, and extended periods of homelessness.

Robert, a former professor at an Ivy League college and founder of a successful nationwide software company, emerges as a scholar searching for a feeling of belonging and a family. His journey takes him to both coasts of the US, to Europe, and finally, to a remote, mountainous region in Mexico. There, he rediscovers love where he least expects it, and finds a place to call home.

Beatniks, Tupperware and Chiles en Nogada is written with humor, heart, and an understanding of how complex humanity can be. It is a celebration of the human spirit that will captivate the reader with unforgettable characters and exotic locales.

Review
The author kept the writing of the book in good tone being more conversational and less formal and that helped keep me most interested in the book, so as to not bore whatever reader with a monotonous voice that narrates. I also feel that the author was honest and open about his experience, which made this endearing.

About the Author

Robert spent his childhood in Ensenada, Mexico, and Southern California. After serving in Vietnam he relocated to New York. He attended graduate school at UPENN where he joined the staff as an Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine after earning his Pd.D. in Physics. Robert left his academic position to found PyraMed, Inc., a  nationwide software company serving academic medical clinics. Robert lived and traveled in Mexico extensively after stepping down from his executive position at PyraMed. He presently lives in Florida with his wife, Rosie, and his two daughters, Danna and Sophie.

Book Tour & Book Review: Patsy Swayze: Every Day a Chance to Dance by Sue Tabashnik #blogtour #biography #nonfiction #rabtbooktours @RABTBookTours @MKWebsiteandSEO

Biography

Date Published: July 12, 2022

Publisher: Passion Spirit Dreams Press

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

The book honors and celebrates Patsy Swayze. There are twenty-nine interviews which include her students, colleagues, and friends. Their stories showcase what a trailblazer she was and the extent of her influence on them and on the world. Many of her students continue to carry forward her legacy by following in her giant dance footsteps. There are sixty-four photos, most in color and rarely seen, which help tell this story.

Patsy Swayze was an icon in the dance and performing arts world for decades as a dancer, teacher, mentor, and choreographer. Her work includes founding the Houston Jazz Ballet, teaching at the University of Houston, running her own dance studios, and choreographing for Theatre, Incorporated, Playhouse Theatre, and Hollywood movies. She inspired thousands of dance students, many of whom went on to become professionals in the performing arts, and instilled in all students a strong work ethic and set of values. With that said, she was most proud of her family and thought her greatest achievement was being the mother of five children.

Of course, Patsy had one very famous student, her beloved son Patrick, known as "Buddy" to family and friends. The book touches on the relationship between Patsy and Buddy, and Buddy's life. Another renowned student is Jaclyn Smith, who kindly granted a full-length interview about her experiences with Patsy.

Patsy was a pioneer in opening her dance classes and her heart to all students, regardless of race, economic, or cultural background, and this was no small feat in the fifties and sixties in Houston. In addition, Patsy was known to be extremely philanthropic.

Patsy Swayze continues to touch the lives of multitudes of people, including the author's life. In today's world it is especially wonderful to have such a hero, someone who gave so much to others and has left such a profound legacy.

Review
A wonderfully written entertaining book about the journey of Patsy Swayze at times touching, tender, loving, and empathic. All while being a beautiful dedication to the love of dance. An entertaining read!!!!!

‘Are these my thoughts or yours?’ I asked.

‘It doesn’t matter,’ said the Sun.  ‘You are me and I am you….’

The Book of the Sun is a record of the conversations between the author and the Sun.  It concerns the structure of the living universe, why it is so difficult here, and why we should all begin to realize that we are all one, and yet diverse at the same time.  It answers many questions that have concerned minds throughout the millennia.  Why are we here?  Why is there suffering?  What is the future for us?  These questions and many more are answered with many surprises for the reader.

This is a god- the Sun, speaking to us through this book – who has contacted us before in Ancient Egypt, the Americas and many other places.  But the message now is that there is no separation, so the Sun is very concerned that we should not make a religion out of this contact.  Religions are based on hierarchies, rules and judgments, and the Sun’s message is not only that we are one but that love and light is the only reality, with a spicing of laughter.

Teaser

'You are in my heart,'

...It was the sheer warmth of the love that took me by surprise.  It melted my heart in gratitude and joy.  It opened me to the most thrilling conversation of my life.
